New leaks and rumours have come out suggesting that the 2027 Call Of Duty game is being developed at Sledgehammer games. And is going to break one of the franchise’s newest traditions.
By breaking the 2 year expansion tradition starting from Modern Warfare 2 2022 followed by Modern Warfare 3 2023 and now Black Ops 6 2024 followed by the upcoming Black Ops 7 2025, The game will be a standalone title just like the older Call Of Duty titles released before 2022.
With this the 2026 and 2027 Call Of Duty titles have leaked respectively.
THE LEAK ITSELF
The Leak itself comes from TheGhostOfHope on X formerly known as Twitter, Has revealed that Call Of Duty 2026 and 2027 are going to be led by Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games respectively with Call of Duty 2026 potentially being Modern Warfare 4, The Fourth installment in the rebooted Modern Warfare saga.
“What I am hearing about Sledgehammer Games future with Call of Duty: Sledgehammer Games are currently slated to lead their own Call Of Duty in 2027. This comes after Infinity Ward’s game in 2026 which is presumably MW4.COD2027 is currently NOT a Year 2 Modern Warfare game like MWIII. Unclear as of yet if it’s possibly Advanced Warfare 2 or something new. Will update whenever that becomes clear”
WHAT COULD BE CALL OF DUTY 2027?
Many fans have theorised that Call Of Duty 2027 being developed by sledgehammer games is not most likely going to be a Modern Warfare title has they previously stepped in to develop Modern Warfare 3 in 2023, Many think it could be a sequel to 2014’s Call Of Duty Advanced Warfare as sledgehammer previously had shown interest for a sequel while it also could be a sequel to 2021’s Call Of Duty Vanguard which was the last original title from Sledgehammer Games.
It is still quite possible that it could be an entirely new title developed by Sledgehammer Games as their track record isn’t that great critically.
Sledgehammer Games is a video game developer company based in Foster City, California. It was founded in 2009 by Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey, who are known for their work on the “Dead Space” series while at Visceral Games. Sledgehammer Games is part of the Call of Duty franchise development, with some of their notable contributions including:
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (co-developed with Infinity Ward)
- Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
- Call of Duty: WWII
- Call of Duty: Vanguard
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III
Recent leaks claims that it might revisit the Advanced Warfare universe, potentially featuring jetpack gameplay and a futuristic setting. However, there’s uncertainty regarding whether it will be a direct sequel to “Advanced Warfare” or introduce something entirely new. This project would mark a shift from the recent dominance of Modern Warfare and Black Ops titles, possibly indicating an intent to explore other sub-franchises within the Call of Duty series.

A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION?
Many have questioned whether this decision is the right step for the future of Call Of Duty Titles. It seems that it can be a right step as Sledgehammer Games are being given a proper time period to develop a Call Of Duty title as their previous title “Modern Warfare 3” only had reportedly 16 months of development time”.
A Lot of fans have been asking for a return of the futuristic setting with Advanced Warfare 2 and if it is indeed a sequel for Advanced Warfare, It is very possible it’ll make a big part of the community happy by listening to fans which Activision has recently started to acknowledge with Black Ops 6 and potentially onwards.
